With heavy hearts full of love and compassion we announce the
passing of Reinier Abraham Johannas deSmit. He was 91 years of
age. He passed quietly and at rest with his family members around
him. Reinier spent the last 25 years of his life as an active member of the
Wilmot Creek community in Bowmanville Ontario, where he and his
loving wife Jean were tops in the shuffleboard community and linedancing
groups. He enjoyed golf, bowling, a good joke, and a pint of
beer. He was also a very talented wood carver and master carpenter, and
loved working along with his creative wife building and creating the 3
major homes they lived in as a couple for the last 69 years.
Reinier was a quiet man who reflected the phrase "Still Waters Run
Deep". Reinier is survived by his loving wife Jean deSmit (ne: Horton) and
his two sons, Mark (Wayne) deSmit and his wife Shirley & (Scott)
Reinier deSmit, his grandson Brent deSmit, his brother John deSmit.
And many cousins and nieces and nephews and even more friends
and loved ones.
He is the son of John & Maria deSmit, and is predeceased by his
brother, Abraham deSmit, and his sister Susan McMahon (ne: deSmit).
In lieu of flowers, Reinier would greatly appreciate it if you would give
a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (www.alzheimer.ca)
