Obituary for James Alfred Brittain
Brittain, Dr James A. (DPM) - passed away at his home in Oshawa on Friday June 9, 2017 in his 96th year.
Loving husband of Lily (deceased), Jim was born in Niagara-on-the-Lake on December 31, 1921. Jim served from 1939 to 1945 in WWII with the Lincoln and Welland regiment. He was part of the Normandy invasion and was wounded on March 10, 1945. Jim and Lily married in 1947. Jim became a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and in 1951 he started his practice in Oshawa, Ontario. He retired in 1997.
Loving father of Ron (Marie), Dan (Mary), Cathy Muir (Brian), and Brian (Karen). Jim is survived by his brother Lloyd (Lois), Fred (Bev) Smythe, and sister-in-law Marilyn Smythe. He was predeceased by brothers Gord (Mary), Orville Smythe and sister Gladys (George) Coote. Grandfather to Jeremy, Megan (John), Ian, Adam (Tammy), Rachel, Robine (Ron), Kelly (Jason), Erin (Stephen), Tylar, Jessica (Dan), and Jamin (Jaclyn). Great-grandfather to Niamh, Adrian, Elliott, Brianna, Christopher, Amber, Shawn, Matthew, Austin, Jayden, Michael, Benjamin and Lucas. Uncle to Gord (Sandy), Steve (Cherry), Donna, Doug (Barb), Chuck (Lynn), Paul (Marianne), Janet, Shirley (Rod), Diane (Gord), Fred (Caroline), Jean (Jim), Gary (Arlene), John, Billy, Bobby.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Veterans Affairs and the doctors, nurses and PSWs who supported Jim.
